Va company sells maps, guides for mobile phones - WTVR-TV

BLACKSBURG, Va. - A Virginia company has come up with a mobile phone application designed to replace printed guides and maps.

Blacksburg-based Nomad Mobile Guides Inc. says its application adapts published works to mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod. The company's first deal is with The Great Smoky Mountains Association, which publishes guides and maps to the national park in Tennessee and North Carolina.

Nomad was spun off by Blacksburg-based New City Media seven months ago. The Roanoke Times reports Nomad also has a deal with the Grand Teton Association, which sells mobile guides to the national park in Wyoming.

President David Poteet says the company is targeting guide publishers because it's too expensive for them to create their own mobile applications.

The Runners Guide: Motivation - Associated Content

Running is hard, but we do it because we love it. Though sometimes, we lose all motivation, and doing a run that you usually wouldn't think twice about, becomes unbearable. Whether you're brand new to running, or a
 seasoned vet, all runners lose motivation at some point. Here are some ways to help you through those tough times and get you back on your feet!

Sign Up For a Race:

A great way to find motivation for your training is to sign up for a race. Whatever the distance, having a race on the calendar will give you something to work towards. Maybe you want to set a new best or just finish.

Having something to work towards will really kick start your training, just make sure you don't over-do it and be forced to miss the race!

Watch a Race:

I sat home a few weekends ago and watched the Chicago Marathon. Even though I am not currently training for a marathon, seeing all of the competitors really made me think about turning it up a notch in my training. Just seeing the race made me want to get up off of the couch and go for a run myself.

Look up local races in your area and even if you don't plan on racing, volunteer or simply go cheer on the runners. I guarantee it will make you want to lace up and get moving.

Find a partner:

I know how difficult it is to train alone. I went from running with a group of ten, to logging all of my miles solo. Running alone can be tedious; it is always nice to have someone to chat with to help pass the miles. Go to your local running store and see if there are any local groups or if they sponsor group runs. Or check online.

Switch It Up:

Many runners don't have the luxury of having multiple routes and different terrain at their disposal. Running the same five-mile loop can get very boring. Look up a local park within a reasonable driving distance. If there isn't one, drive somewhere close, park and run from your car. If you're worried about getting all your miles logged in a new surrounding, there are websites that will allow you to map your run.

Next time you lose your motivation, remember these tips and you will be up and running in no time!
