Stick to the Basics
Look, I know, I know. Thors are huge. They destroy things and make infant children cry. But Thors take time and money, and before you ever get a big ole' hunkin' meat murdering robot, you will be up to your ass ears in the enemy . He will likely be eating a sandwich while he murders you and wondering why you have only got a bunch of workers and not a single unit. Start small. After you have mastered the art of building workers, build a unit producing structure (Barracks, Gateway or Spawning Pool), and begin making units. If you play Terran or Toss, then build more than one. Two or three are a good place to start. Then, use the most basic build order; build workers first, units (Marines, Zealots, Zerglings), and then supply (Supply Depots, Pylons, Overlords) as necessary. That's it. You only have to remember those three things to do well at the start. Workers, fighters, supply. That is as basic as it gets. And when you go to attack you will have units, lots of units, and will not be overrun. Just remember, fifty marines are better than a single Thor, no matter how cool they are.

As I said, this guide is for the basic of the basic, brand new pvp-er. Once you master these two ideas, you can start to expand into build orders, strategies, compositions, and map knowledge. But those are for a different day. For now, focus. "Am I building a worker?" "Am I building a unit?" "Do I need supply?" Say it out loud and you will either get better or get committed to your local padded room.
