Nokia announced the introduction of Own Voice for Ovi Maps, enabling users to personalize turn-by-turn navigation services with their voice or the voices of family and friends. Optimized for Ovi Maps v3.03, Own Voice guides users through 53 frequently-used navigation instructions, with remaining instructions added in the server to create a complete package--users are encouraged to record instructions in a quiet place, employing a relaxed, natural voice. Consumers can also browse other users' voice packs, rate them and share them via email, Facebook or Twitter.

Nokia introduced the free Ovi Maps service in January. It features both vehicular and pedestrian navigation features including turn-by-turn voice guidance spanning 74 countries and 46 languages as well as traffic information for more than 10 countries and detailed maps for over 180 countries. In mid-February, Nokia's executive vice president of services Niklas Savander said Ovi Maps now averages more than one download per second, 24 hours a day.
